{"id":4018,"date":"2021-04-12T13:15:29","date_gmt":"2021-04-12T11:15:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wanderful.stream\/uncategorized\/the-first-5-waste-valorisation-concepts-in-wallonia\/"},"modified":"2021-07-22T14:54:39","modified_gmt":"2021-07-22T12:54:39","slug":"the-first-5-waste-valorisation-concepts-in-wallonia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wanderful.stream\/en\/innovation-tracks-en\/the-first-5-waste-valorisation-concepts-in-wallonia\/","title":{"rendered":"The top 5 waste recovery concepts in Wallonia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>In autumn 2020, 5 companies from the Li\u00e8ge region were selected to take part in an online bootcamp aimed at developing original value-adding concepts based on challenges specific to their activities or sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul style=\"font-size:12px\"><li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jdcinnovation.com\/\">JDC Innovation<\/a><\/strong> : Innovative SME active in the manufacture of carbon fibre composite parts, using autoclave moulds and intended for the aeronautical and defence sectors. <\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ahlstrom-munksjo.com\/Contact-us\/?type=all&amp;country=Belgium\"><strong>Ahlstrom-M\u00fcnksjo<\/strong><\/a> : a world leader in fibre-based materials such as non-woven paper, fibreglass cloth, filters, etc. <\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pacarbel.be\/\">Pacarbel<\/a><\/strong>: design and manufacture of paper and non-woven tablecloths for the world of table decoration.<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jean-delcour.be\/\">Les Ateliers Jean Del\u2019cour<\/a><\/strong> : An adapted work company offering its skills in services as diverse as packing and packaging, cabling, machining, welding and maintenance of green spaces.<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lesgaillettes.be\/\">L\u2019Atelier Les Gaillettes<\/a><\/strong> : Adaptive work company offering services in packaging, woodworking and carpentry, metal and plastic work and epoxy applications. <\/li><\/ul>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>La m\u00e9thode de travail propos\u00e9e \u00e0 ces entreprises s\u2019est appuy\u00e9e sur la formation d\u2019\u00e9quipes multidisciplinaires, compos\u00e9es d\u2019\u00e9tudiants en design industriel (ESA St Luc Li\u00e8ge) et en entrepreneuriat (HEC Advisory), sous la supervision de designers et avec les apports ponctuels d\u2019experts en technologies et business development.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"939\" height=\"490\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wanderful.stream\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tripple-diamond-model-Bootcamp-Wanderful.stream-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3994\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wanderful.stream\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tripple-diamond-model-Bootcamp-Wanderful.stream-1.png 939w, https:\/\/www.wanderful.stream\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tripple-diamond-model-Bootcamp-Wanderful.stream-1-768x401.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 939px) 100vw, 939px\" \/><figcaption><strong>\u00a9Yellow Window<\/strong>, facilitator of the Wanderful.stream bootcamp<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Teams that distinguished themselves over a 3-day course interspersed with design thinking tools and methods (co-creation and collective intelligence), which enabled them to identify the needs and challenges specific to SMEs and to rapidly transform ideas into concrete solutions (creativity with purpose). The concepts resulting from the teams&#8217; intensive work over 3 full days were presented to an external jury of circular economy experts.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-2\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1845\" height=\"619\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wanderful.stream\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Wallonie-design-preview.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4002\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wanderful.stream\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Wallonie-design-preview.png 1845w, https:\/\/www.wanderful.stream\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Wallonie-design-preview-960x322.png 960w, https:\/\/www.wanderful.stream\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Wallonie-design-preview-768x258.png 768w, https:\/\/www.wanderful.stream\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Wallonie-design-preview-1536x515.png 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1845px) 100vw, 1845px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p><strong>5 concepts sur les 10 formul\u00e9s dans le cadre du bootcamp ont \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9s pour \u00eatre d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s en prototypes, sur base de leur faisabilit\u00e9 technique, de leur potentiel commercial et de l&#8217;int\u00e9gration du design.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-central-palette-2-background-color has-background\"><strong>CONCEPT 1 : Medical orthosis<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">JDC Innovation&#8217;s carbon fibre waste becomes the base material for a modular medical orthosis concept proposed by the students of the team challenged by <strong>Bryan Stepien<\/strong>, industrial designer and director of Relab in Liege.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-central-palette-2-background-color has-background\"><strong>CONCEPT 2 : Insulation<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Using the non-woven paper waste generated by Ahlstr\u00f6m-Munksjo, the team led by <strong>Jean-Michel Denis<\/strong>, industrial designer at tds, proposed a Thermofloc\u00ae insulation solution.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-central-palette-2-background-color has-background\"><strong>CONCEPT 3 : Fire starter<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Avec la sciure de bois produite par L\u2019Atelier Les Gaillettes, l\u2019\u00e9quipe accompagn\u00e9e par <strong>Simon Fr\u00e9mineur<\/strong>, designer produit chez SF Design Studio, propose de d\u00e9velopper un concept d\u2019allume-feu pouvant \u00eatre fabriqu\u00e9 par le personnel de cette entreprise de travail adapt\u00e9 gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un process adapt\u00e9 et low tech. Particularit\u00e9 de ce projet : il recourt \u00e9galement aux d\u00e9chets issus de 2 autres entreprises : des d\u00e9chets de papier compress\u00e9 et de papier paraffin\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-central-palette-2-background-color has-background\"><strong>CONCEPT 4 : Tableware<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Using waste paper from Pacarbel&#8217;s activities, the team led by <strong>Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Parisse<\/strong>, industrial designer at Ideasign, has developed a concept for tableware. This concept needs to be reoriented and other applications (without food contact) need to be identified.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-central-palette-2-background-color has-background\"><strong>CONCEPT 5 : Thermo-compost<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The green space maintenance activity of Ateliers Jean Del&#8217;cour generates a large quantity of green waste, in addition to cardboard waste from the packaging activity. At the same time, the considerable needs of SMEs for compost inspired the team accompanied by <strong>Romy Di Donato<\/strong>, industrial designer at Romy Design Studio, to develop a process for creating internal composts within companies. Reoriented with the help of UCLL students, the concept also aims to use the heat from the compost to heat a small infrastructure within the SME (biomeiler).<\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The selection&#8230; and after? <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<p><strong>Once again, techno\/business\/design teams will accompany companies over a period of several months as part of an innovation process. Some concepts will be developed in collaboration with STEAM students.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>In parallel, a new selection of companies will take place during September 2021 for a new bootcamp cycle (innovation pathway 2021-2022).
